What is Semiotics ?

Semiotics, starting out as an academic investigation in Linguistics and moving into examining behavior, in more simplistic terms Semiotics is the study of creation and communication of meaning through signs and symbols.

  • Semiotics is everywhere, from the colors in a Traffic Light to the simple gesture of Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down.
  • The role human cognition plays in creating inferences from these physical entries is Semiotics. It ensures that symbolism will be understood without ambiguity at the receiver’s end, it helps remove the confusions in a message and unravel the meaning of the message intended.
